Nintendo on Thursday made its sales predictions regarding the Gamecube. The company still has a long way to go if they are going to catch Sony and the Playstation 2 console, which has already sold 30 million units since its debut on March 2000.
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese video game giant Nintendo Co Ltd said on Thursday it aimed to sell 50 million of its GameCube game consoles globally by March 2005.
Nintendo launched the GameCube last September and has set a shipment target of 12 million units for the business year that started in April, compared with Sony's target of 20 million PlayStation 2s.
President Satoru Iwata also stressed concern about the recent price cuts of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. The price-cutting fever may spread to software, where it could do severe damage to game makers' bottom lines.
