It's finally come. On July 25, 2001, circa 2:00 PM PST, my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer died of a massive stroke, and could not be revived.
Bought around February of 2000, the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer (named "the mouse"), had been a trusty companion for many, many months.
"It was a good mouse," said the sad, shocked owner, uh...ok. "But after a while, it started getting tired on me a lot."
The mouse was reported to experience innumberable instances where it slowed down and "lost its sensitivity" by over 200%.
"Not only that, it then started to fall asleep on me," explains uh...ok. "I would be playing in the middle of a game of Counter-Strike, and then it would suddenly just 'die'. The light beneath the mouse would be turned off, and none of the mouse buttons would respond. It would take 5 seconds for Windows to revive the mouse, and then it would be back to normal again, with even better sensitivity than ever!"
These spasmic incidents bothered uh...ok tremendously as they began to occur more and more often.
"One day, I just couldn't take it anymore. I decided to pack the mouse up back into the box, and see if CompUSA would still allow me to get a brand new one for $9.99. This mouse needed a break. It needed doctors. It didn't need me."
Unfortunately, the people at CompUSA could do nothing because uh...ok could not find his receipt. Disappointed, uh...ok returned home with his old, still sickly mouse.
"Then a miracle occurred," recalls uh...ok fondly. "It was about May of this year when I went to CompUSA. That day when I came home and plugged the mouse back into the computer, it started working again! The mouse didn't show any signs of sensitivity-loss, even after prolonged periods of usage. I quickly forgot about all the problems the mouse had after two months of usage with absolutely no problems at all."
Suddenly, one day, his mouse started to lose sensitivity again.
"By then, I had the feeling that my beloved mouse was doomed. All the old symptoms started to suddenly return, and then today, after it died on me one last time-," uh...ok pauses for a moment, overwhelmed. "I did the usual, unplugging the mouse's USB and plugging it in again, expecting it to work again. But it still didn't work. I couldn't believe it. I looked as the light on the mouse flickered on and off, on and off. As if it were struggling for its very last breath! And finally, its light turned off and would not turn on again."
Family members of the mouse have been contacted, and funeral arrangements have been made.
"I'm trying to think of the best place to bury this mouse right now," says uh...ok. "But I've never had a mouse die on me before. A turtle, yes. But not a mouse! I'm in total shock."
According to uh...ok's family members (who are also shocked by this incident), uh...ok is planning to bury his beloved, trusty Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer... up Bill Gate's proverbial ass.
