i think i must be menopausal

i am not generally impressed with hollywood stars and their ilk, but i do have to give props to sandra bullock. 2 mil in 3 years is a good chunk of change.

No kidding. I saw that and was pretty impressed myself.

The band Linkin Park sent $100,000 and is donating their time to setting up Music for Relief, a musicians-and-friends organization who is working with the Red Cross.

Jackie Chan sent $64,000 to UNICEF for their work in Southeast Asia. Chow Yun Fat sent $25,000.

I'm betting we see some massive grants from the Gates Foundation soon, too, judging by all the money they funnel towards disease relief and prevention in third world countries (you may think Bill Gates is evil, but applaud what he and his wife do with their money).

Heh.. I just saw that. And it's even "Michael Dell and his wife" who personally donated the 3 million, not the Dell corporation. Wow.

Re: i think i must be menopausal

the corporation already donates large amounts yearly to the red cross. probably in the same range, since they match employees donations as well as give a flat 1m.

Re: i think i must be menopausal

I think it shows how generous the Americans are to the rest of the world. If only we were so open with our pocketbooks to ease the plight of the poor in this country.

Large amounts of money given toward aid to tsunami victims is more a vehicle of publicity over their apparent generousity to most of these folks. All is well and good.

We should feel good I guess. It's the American way. Money we give to victims will go mostly toward the various governments deep and bribable pockets, the mountain warlords for passage money, the muslim rebels who demand money to reach the vicitms, and pirates there and in this country who will plunder the rest. I gave money too. Might as well start arming and training our next enemy for our children to face. I am sure there is some mullah somewhere who is thanking Allah for such a disaster that the revolution might be funded and by the evil empire! It is enough of an irony for even the most dense of people not to understand and laugh.

You are not the only ones, in the UK the General Public, not Government or corporations have raised $147million. Several other European countries have raised significant amounts too.

Re: i think i must be menopausal

heh, i dont care how much he donated. but making an announcement of the amount when its miniscule (for a multi-millionaire) is pretty bad. he didnt even keep up with linkin park and the us govt is way behind too. sad really.

i dont go for the competing donations bit, i think they should all be private, at least in amount.
