Tell me about Massachusetts

Hey one and all.... I'm looking for some info on Massachusetts.

I'm currently attending the University of Worcester in the UK doing a BCs (Hons) in Web Development. One of the great things about this university is that it has a student exchange program in operation with a number of different universities in Europe, America & Canada, and even Australia & New Zealand.

I originally wanted to go to Canada, as I have a friend who lives in Toronto, but the only Canadian university they have is in Quebec - not much good. So on the recommendation of the international office here at the uni, I'm focusing in on MA, specifically (wait for it) Worcester Sate College!

It looks like it does some interesting modules which should well compliment what I'm currently doing - but I don't know anything at all about what Massachusetts itself is like.

So, to cut a long story short - can you please gimme some info on what MA is like, and what it should be like for someone living there for 4-5 months.

Thank you

Re: Tell me about Massachusetts

Actually, it's a normal climate. It's cold right now because it's the middle of winter. There is some deep colonial history there if you're interested in that sort of thing. Boston, MA is famous for its markets and aquarium as well as its Boston sports teams. The state itself is slightly larger geographically than Great Britain so there's a healthy mix of city life, small towns and rural areas. Here's a website for more info. It's based mostly on tourism information, but I hope it will be helpful. www.massvacation.com/jsp/index.jsp

Re: Tell me about Massachusetts

You'll note that Boston is a good hour away from Worcester. Assuming you're not going to have a car with you (most college kids here don't), there's almost very little chance you'll be in Boston that often.

Plus, it's cold.

Like I said - Massachusetts is a big place. As for the weather, it's a temperate climate so it's cold in the winter and hot in the summer. So like he says, buy a hat. Just make sure it isn't a New York Yankees hat or you'll get beaten up by Red Sox fans.

Re: Tell me about Massachusetts

Ah, storytime!

One time a bunch of my friends and I were walking to the AMC theater at Fenway to go see a movie. We crossed the river via the Harvard Bridge, and in the duration of that crossing, we first passed by a guy in crutches, coming from the other direction. He was wearing a Yankees t-shirt. Five minutes later, we passed by yet another guy coming from the other direction. He was sporting a Yankees cap and a cast on his arm.

At this point, we turned to our friend (who is a Yankees fan, who was at the time wearing a Yankees cap), and laughed at him.

Yes, there was a Sox game that night.

Yup. You'll also get "Did you mean Massachusetts?" in italics at the top of the screen because Google sometimes knows how to spell. I say sometimes because often it doesn't either.
