Car Audio

So I upgraded my audio system in my car a little. I have a Ford Taurus 2001 with the Mach system in it. I got the Alpine CDA-9885 deck, a Rockford Fosgate P3D412, and the Rockford Fosgate P1000-1BD amp. Now, I had Best Buy install it all for me (since I work there and all). I don't want any criticism about what I chose since it's already purchased, and I'm quite happy with what I have right now.

But I've noticed how with every beat in some of the songs that I listen to, that my lights will dim. I was wondering if this is going to kill my alternator and what should be done about this or if I should just say screw it and have fun with what I have. haha.

EDIT: From my research online I can see that the automatic reaction people have is to get a capacitor, but it seems that's just 'cause that's what people are used to hearing. From researching deeper it seems two things would be in order, a performance battery and alternator. I was checking prices on performance alternators for a 2001 Ford Taurus, and the prices aren't as scary as I thought. I was just curious what some of you thought (I know some of you on here do a lotta car work too).

I can't see that it would screw your alternator, I would think it is more likely to damage the battery. Could be wrong of course.
As you have found out from your research, a higher performance alternator & battery could resolve the problem.

Well, my thought is that when the car starts up and is running, almost all your power is coming from the alternator and that it is charging back up the battery too, right? So if it's dimming that means there's a strain on the electrical system... which would primarily be the alternator. My thought was that that strain would eventually cause it to crap out on me, haha.

Sweet setup! I had a 97 taurus with the mach. I ended up putting fosgate 6x9's for highs and mids. I've heard they are the same guys that did cerwin-vega speakers. Excellent audio. As far as the lights dimming that is pretty common. I had a 2003 Saturn Ion with 2 x 12" infinity woofers and had the same problem. The usual setup where I live now is to have an extra battery, a capacitor and the performance alternator if it bothers you.

One of my friends (who used to be an installer for car audio) told me that eventually it will ruin the alternator, but apparently that won't be for a while, and that I should consider getting a second battery (one not hooked up to the alternator).
