Warcraft III DOTA loads WAY faster when minimized?

So I was playing a custom OBS map with a friend (we were both OBS) and I was minimized when the game started. We both have almost exactly the same setup and so we load EXACTLY the same time every time. But this game, I loaded hella faster and he noticed (we're usually the first two to load in any game) and he asked why it was. Only thing I could think of was that I had my WC minimized and was doing other things while the game was loading. So we tried it out.

I hosted a DOTA and he minimized right before I started. Sure enough, I could see (using VCK) that he loaded considerably faster than me. Usually, like I said, we load almost exactly the same.

So I guess this could just be a general discussion question: What would occur to make the load time on a game so much faster when WCIII is minimized?
