New Athlon (and Mac) guy...

Hello! Just registered...

I am putting together my system in my signature today - well.... still waiting for the Asus 6800GT GPU to come in from NewEgg... but I am going to use a "High Performance 32MB PCI VGA" (haha) for the weekend to install the O/S and some apps...

I have worked in the Gulf for a couple years so I pretty much have to mail-order anything thats even remotely close to bleeding edge technology... I did find the same GPU out here - but the shop owner was asking for about $800 for it! I could have got 2 from NewEgg and SLI'd them at that price... anyway...

I worked on Macs for a few years now building my first Athlon PC. might dual boot Windows XP with Linux SuSE... and also debating taking the XP 64x leap - got the install CD from Microsoft in the mail last week...

Thanks... having some issues with getting the front LED's and HDD LEDs to come on the Tt Tsunami tower - other than that... once the graphics card arrives from NewEgg - IT'S ON!

Re: New Athlon (and Mac) guy...

let me know how you like that motherboard. im thinkin of gettin an AN8 myself. Actually, what i want is the AN8 Fatal1ty, but i cant seem to get past the $190 price tag. Not sure if the SATA2 is worth the price of upgrading or not.

Re: New Athlon (and Mac) guy...

The Asus retails around $175 online. I researched each component I have included in my system set-up and came up with the A8N-SLI Deluxe as the best mobo for the buck. And some of the performance tests were comparing it to the Fatal1ty. So far it has been a great board with good documentation and packaging. As well as the incuded software.

Still waiting on the grapgics card...

Here are shots of the system almost together...

Re: New Athlon (and Mac) guy...

Just watch out for bugs flying into any of your fans - especially at night! A moth committed suicide last night by flying into the side fan of my pc. Think it was attracted to the light behind the fan, and it looks like your pc gives off a lot more of it than mine does...AMD claims that an Athlon processor is at the rate you get when you devide the model number by 1000, but it ain't necessarrily so! Be careful over there!

Re: New Athlon (and Mac) guy...

The intake in the front has a filter - but I had never even thought about that drawback to a lighted case... need to keep an eye on the filter! Obviously I want to place it in the open as a little decor the room... and show off the efforts... lol...
