How much do you think PCI Express will cost?

So, how much do you think PCI express will cost? Will it save more money by buying PCI Express, or by buying AGP?

pci express isnt just a new video card slot. it is a whole new motherboard bus technology, you have to take into account all the pieces that can plug into the mobo. the cost of those somponants vs the cost of the legacy pci. its parallel and more serial in nature so you should get better performance from cheaper componants.

youll have to upgrade componants youve never had to upgrade b4. and mobos with pci express will not support as much legacy hardware which for many will make things cheaper. but others will have to upgrade. it will be expensive at first, but prices should be normal within a year

Do you think you can send in your computer to the company you bought it from(in this case mines a dell) and get pci express installed?

It doesn't quite work that way. If you want PCI-E, you'll have to get a new motherboard, CPU, graphics card, misc. peripheral cards, and possibly RAM. You might as well buy a whole new computer. PCI-E isn't worth all that hassle

Maybe it'll be incorporated somewhat by the time I buid a new compy for college.

PCI-E isnt worth the hassle if your current system is fairly new. Or if you dont have more than $1000 to spend on a new system.

As for costs, should be about the same as when AGP came out, or a bit higher. I know the GeForceFX 6950 PCI-E is gonna be $499 to $599. Asus nForce4 will probably be about $175ish, about the same for Intel boards. If you plan on getting a PCI-E mobo and vid card, most likely all the nForce4 mobos will be socket 754 for the new AthlonXP's, not sure about Pentiums. Its unknown weither the nForce4 will be DDRII only or backwards compatable with DDR, it would suck if it wasnt because DDRII is a rip. The nForce4 also might have the 2 PCI-E video slots too so that you could run dual video card setups, not sure though if that will be standard though. Most likely not.

Ive been anticipating PCI-E for a very long time now and have had about $1200 waiting for it. I need everything except optical drives, hard drives and a case.
