Angry Compaq Presario and Linksys Wireless Adapter Issues

Compaq Presario and Linksys Wireless Adapter Issues

I set up a Linksys Wireless Router for my parents Desktop and now am on to setting up the wireless adapter on my Dad's Compaq Presario 2700. I've been on with tech support for both Linksys and Compaq and each points the finger at the other - So I'm done with them! Compaq stated that with this Compaq I cannot update the BIOS which Linksys told me to do in order to make the card work. The card lights up only when I insert it after powered up and settings loaded. That said it's getting a signal randomly then it won't take me to any web pages.

To add more fun, from time to time when a connection to the wireless is showing the computer freezes up/hangs.

Anyone...Anyone? I'm going insane and just want to make my Dad's b-day present work and move on with my life.

Re: Compaq Presario and Linksys Wireless Adapter Issues

This an an old post but what the heck, I'll just answer this so for future reference from other members.

First of all in order for this problem to be isolated properly the specs of the laptop is requierd especially the Cardbus Controller because some of them doesn't respond well with a certain chipset for the adapter like is more of a compatibility thingy like your mobo and some of the PCI cards that you insert on it and the desktop starts acting crazy.... a BIOS update is a last resort upating the device driver is a first option then if it fails try the adapter on a different machine probably a different model or manufacturer if it runs properly you can now narrow down the problem with the PCMCIA slot or the cardbus contrller.

Hope this could help other forum member wiht their networking problem

That's one nice isolation procedure. Try to install the wireless card at a different computer and see if it will work or not. That's the next best thing to do since like what you've describe, the computer hangs when the card is installed in it.
