dvd burner is not recognizing data dvd

i burned data on a dvd-r. Its readable on a dvd-rom drive, but not on the burner itlsef. I have a sony dvd dl burner thats external. I upgraded the firmware, but it stilll doesnt recognize that data dvdr i burnt on it. Yet a friend of mine used that burner on his mac and burned a data dvd r from his mac using that burner, and it recognizes the data dvd. Whats the problem with this burner?

What do you use to burn your DVD's? Sounds like maybe a software conflict of somekind. Does it read burnt cd's? It's also possible your burner has trouble reading the surface of the DVD's because of some brand incompatibility, or burning speed. Burning at a slower speed may do the trick.

What is the message its giving you when you try to read it?
