Angry Dell Axim

Ok, this just started happening all of a sudden and with no understanding as to why. I go to sync up my axim x3i to my laptop and everything is fine. Then without me noticing the axim shuts off because of the battery settings i have it on. Ok fine so I turn it back on and I get the following message:

USB Device Not Recognized

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.

So I thought "ok its just the laptop so lets try the desktop" Well it says the same thing on that one also. So I ran through the windows troubleshooting crap, which by the way will never help anyone in my opinion. I tried reinstalling activesync and that did nothing. I also tried a hard reset and that also did nothing. I have checked all USB ports with other devices and all ports are in good working order. This is driving me crazy. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Dell Axim

If the device is being written too when it shuts off, this can cause problems. Change the settings so that it doesn't turn off as quickly or use the mains.

Re: Dell Axim

I donl't understand what your saying about the mouse. Yes I do think that the device was being written to when it shut off. Since it shut off I have changed the power settings so that it won't shut off unless I tell it to. Either way it is still doing the same thing and im about to put it under the rear tire of my bronco and back over it real slow like. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Dell Axim

Have you got updated drivers for the device? If not, I would get them & give that a go. Is the device connecting via USB 1.1 or 2?
If it is USB 2, is this an add on PCI card or onboard?
I have an external HDD & this fails if I connect it to one of my machines that has a PCI USB 2 card. However it works fine with another machine via a PCI USB 2 card (go figure)

Re: Dell Axim

This is all USB 2. The problem is that this has never been a problem before. I have had the axim for about 6 months and I have never had a problem syncing up to my computer. This is something that has all of a sudden started happening. I have been using it on both of these computers for a while now. I really don't think that it has anything to do with the computers being as both of them are doing the same thing when I try to plug in the axim. I really think that it has something to do with the axim. I don't know. This is very annoying.

Re: Dell Axim

If you are having the same problem on two machines, it sounds like the Axim. Have you tried another cable? It may just be that. If not, I would get the Axim swapped out or repaired under warranty.
