Need some laptop help.
Ok, first off, given these kind of specs, how much do you think this kind of laptop would be worth in today's (US) market?
HP Pavilion ZD8000
CPU - Pentium 4, 3.4 GHz, w/ Hyper Threading
OS - Windows XP Professional
GPU - Mobility Radeon X600
RAM - 2 GB
Screen - 17", 1680 x 1050
Extras
- CD/DVD reader/burner w/ Lightscribe
- 6-in-1 card reader
- 4 USB and 1 Mini-Firewire port
- PCMIA card port
- Two 14.8 V / 6.6 AHr Li-Ion batteries
- Weighs approx. 10 lbs
- Two power supply bricks (and I do mean bricks, these things are big and heavy)
In case you were wondering, I was thinking I could maybe sell off this laptop for somewhere between 500 - 1000 USD and have enough cash to get a smaller, cheaper and just a tad faster laptop that sports Linux. Now, whether the laptop initially comes with a distro of Linux or it comes with Vista doesn't matter to me as I'd be installing the latest Ubuntu (7.10) on it regardless of what OS it comes with.
The problem here is that I seem to be having a hard time finding major sellers that sell Linux laptops (which I would assume to be the cheapest ones). So basically what I need help with is finding a good value laptop somewhere near or below $500 (Linux or not).
And in case you're wondering why I'd sell this beast of a laptop in the first place, it's mostly for portability and practicality. See, I originally got this beast because I wanted a laptop that could play games decently and stuff, but it hasn't aged very well and the mobility radeon it carries is utter crap (even for it's generation's standards). Also my desktop is my main game machine. So I figured I'd save myself some back-ache and try to go for a lighter machine intended simply for work/school.
