New laptop

Hey what's up OTS'ers! Its been a while since I've been on this site... I'm planning to get a new laptop for school! I haven't done any research yet ...but I'm looking for something that can get me through school without worrying about upgrading, portability, good battery life.. My range is preferably around <$900. Any suggestion guys? Thanks a bunch!

Re: New laptop

My recommendation would be to go for an ASUS laptop. Sony vaios might hold better quality, but from what I have seen they charge more for their laptops. Göran, do you have any comments about this?

Re: New laptop

Well, both MSI and some of the Asus lappy's seems nice, judeging from the customer reviews at newegg.

And the hardware you get for sub 1000 bucks are nice indeed.

And I'm not sure if not both Asus and MSI have their lappy's custom made for them by some other and mayor lappy manufacturer?

Re: New laptop

My company just purchased 14 of each of these two laptops, for around 600 each. I was so impressed with them, that i purchased the top one from my company. It may not be the best on games, but the only ones i still play is the occasional Diablo II, Starcraft and Guildwars. Decent price for the specs, not to mention it gives you cash left over to purchase an extended battery, docking station, or even a good LCD for the desk. Just for a quick specs.

4GB Ram,
ATI HD3200
HDMI out
ESATA out
3 usb ports
capable of dual hard drives, comes with single 320GB
2.2 AMD Turon

On Windows 7 i'm getting a 4.8 on the user experience, on Vista getting a 3.8, but i chalk that up to Vista being a resource hog. Windows 7 IMHO is what vista should have been. Instead of being a stop gap (like windows ME).
