Cheap Rig

Hi,

I am looking at building a computer for my dad and he only uses it for Internet and e-mails really. I have got an old case that I can use. But I would need everything else for the budget of £200-£300.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Re: Cheap Rig

Hi Again,

Thanks for your reply.

That all looks fine and it will do nicely.

Does it matter that the mobo is matx? I take it it does not because of what it is going be used for just internet and e-mails.

What OS would you recommend installing on it? He has XP on his current pc atm, but as Windows 7 is coming out on the 22nd Oct 09. As I have read I might wait till then and then put that on?

Thanks Again.

Re: Cheap Rig

Hi!

No, it doesnt matter at all if you are running a M-ATX mobo in that rig. Wanna add that 2 gb of RAM will do whatever operating system you decide to stick on the hdd? This, as this rig will not be meant for gaming purposes. And I take it he wont do much heavy editing either?

I think you can just as well run trusty ol' XP with SP 3. That release date of W7 is just romours.... for now at least. And until W7 Alpha really are out, XP will do.

You're welcome mate.

Re: Cheap Rig

Hi,

Thanks for your reply

Here is where I read about the Windows 7 date.

I will leave it with XP on it as he is use to that.

Thanks again.

Re: Cheap Rig

O.k pretty interesting reading. But I think I wait to be optimistic about that release date, until more such articles pops up on the net confirming that. But "W7 Home Premium" seems to be an interesting version as it's in the middle row. If MS go down the same route as with Vista about the W7 versions? I think Home Premium will be spot on. The more advanced versions, are probably loaded with more eye candy that will eat resources. And for a gamer, W7 64 bit is likely the best route to go down.

Just hope that both ATI and NV get their acts together with the 64 bit video card drivers by then. So far, these drivers have been a bit too uneven quality.

Thanks for providing that article.
