MiniQ wont post
So i got a MiniQ from my father in law. the psu had blown last year so he got a new one amd he said he got it to post once just fine but then bought a new mac and hasnt pulled out the miniq since. i got it today and tried to turn it on. When i flick the psu on, it turns the computer on without me hitting the computers power button. the psu fan, case fan, and cpu fan all spin. the monitor gets activated and this all takes about 3 seconds. then it shuts down. no mobo beeps, nothing actually comes onto the screen. where to start? i appreciate any help a lot.

Re: MiniQ wont post
update, i pulled out the video card and used an old vga monitor with the onboard video, dunno if cause of different monitor but it almost posted. i saw the screen where it displayed cpu info and looked like it was about to countoff ram info or something when it shut down... is it possible the cpu getting too hot or something in that amount of time? and if so how to find that out?

Re: MiniQ wont post
Hey, in my past experience I set up the jumper cables in correctly and some how the computer would boot up when I hit the PSU switch. Try double checking the jumper cables that are connected to the mobo and make sure nothing else is not interfering with the wires. Also make sure everything is connected tightly, you don't want any loose connections. Hope this helps!

Re: MiniQ wont post
ok, so mobo looks good as far as I can tell. Reseated the cpu/fan, ram, all cables, etc. Reset bios.
And btw, I figured out it IS posting. I get the standard "one beep" from the mobo saying all is good and I've seen the first screen as I mentioned. I bought a new PSU to test and that made no difference, did exactly the same thing. I'm really confused now.... any ideas at all?

Re: MiniQ wont post
The only thing comes to mind, is if the bios for the "switch" between on board video, and the graphics slot have got stuck somewhere in between? I have seen this happen twice over at the Nvidia forum. A bios update / flash solved that.

Re: MiniQ wont post
How might one flash new bios if the thing won't stay on for the first 5 seconds? Wouldn't the machine have to boot for this to be possible?

Re: MiniQ wont post
Sorry, I must have forgot to screw my head on right to the neck yesterday.
Yeah, if the pc does'nt stay on for more than a few seconds. Then trying to flash will be kinda hard lol.
But anyways. Are you sure the mobo are'nt in contact with the case somewhere shortening it out?
All the motherboard standoff pegs are where they should be? And also, are they the correct amount? Not one or 2 too many?
Check the mobo for leaking capasitators and burnt areas too.
If not any of these problems?
Then I still belive that the bios are flaky. Not much you can do then.

Re: MiniQ wont post
Even though its not acting like a short, I pulled the mobo out of the case and tried it. Same behavior... boots for a few seconds, gives the one-short-beep "all clear" then about 1 second later just shuts down completely. Also gave the board a good solid visual inspection and no burn marks or anything of that nature sticks out to me. (Although I'm not exactly sure what you mean about checking for leaking capacitors, how exactly does one do that, is it visually apparent or do you need some sort of electrical tool?)
I'm pretty sure the mobo is the problem, problem is this is a 650DF Jetway mobo and they don't sell them anymore... not can I put any other mini-atx board in this case because the backplate isnt' removable and no mobos I've seen have the EXACT port layout in the back to match the one that's in there.... Oh well.

Re: MiniQ wont post
O.k.
A capasitator, looks like this:
Check if there are any that have burst, or look "bubbly" on the surface?

Re: MiniQ wont post
Haha, I know what a capacitor looks like, I just didn't know if there were any visual signs to a defective one. And no, there are none that look odd. Sadly enough, the solution is not that simple.
But as always, thanks for the help!
