College Laptop/Netbook Recommendation

Hey guys,

I'm going to be going to a university in the fall and I've been pondering whether or not I should buy a laptop or possibly even a netbook. I'd like to use the computer for typing up papers, browsing the internet, emails, etc... But not gaming or anything hardcore like that. Are netbooks even good for Word processing and such? For the money, do you think I should go for a netbook like this or a full laptop like this?

Also, do any of you guys have experience with using laptops for modern college? Is it a great idea or could I get buy with a USB stick, my desktop, and the computer lab?

Thanks.

Re: College Laptop/Netbook Recommendation

Hi!

For college I think a lappy will be a good choise for the cause of mobility first hand. I dont think you will like the small monitor of an eee notebook in the long run.

This is a cheap but still nice lappy:

Dell, makes good lappy's. And this got good cpu power. And a for a work / college lappy, the Intel video chip will do.

Re: College Laptop/Netbook Recommendation

So it's better to get a laptop with 2.5Ghz processor vs 2.2 with 2GB less initial RAM? Are the Dells RAM easily upgraded?

Goranpaa, do you think this is even a good time to buy or should I try and wait until Windows 7 comes out? Thanks.

Re: College Laptop/Netbook Recommendation

Anyways what is your range?
Well, i recommend the T400's / T500's from Lenovo. They are sturdy and have a solid build (in your case, going to school). You can check out the Dell outlets and the Lenovo outlets, really good deals there.

As for windows 7, most companys are offering Windows 7 upgrades for free, if you purchase a labtop after June 26th.
