Re: Overclocking Help

I suggest you get a better cpu cooler before you start to over clock. That is, if you still are running the AMD reference cooler?

And I'm not sure if that Kingston Value RAM do have any real overclocking potential? Or if it will limit the oc ability?

This would be an o.k. RAM kit:

If you have a pretty big case?

Noctua coolers and fans is the King of the hill when it comes to cooling and silent operation.

As for oc guide:

I recon you should be able to get that to 4200+ about 2.6 or 2.8 GHz at least. And with o.k load temps.

Case: Antec P180B + 2 X 120mm Noctua fans.
Psu: Corsair TX 750W
Mobo: Gigabyte P35-DS3 P.
Cpu: E6850 3.6GHz
Cooler: Scythe Ninja.
Video cards: 2 X Sapphire HD 4870.
W.D. Caviar 640 mb SATA 2 Black.
Sound: Auzentech X FI Prelude.
Speaks: Camebridge Desktop Theatre.
OS: XP Pro 32 + SP 3.

Re: Overclocking Help

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

Do you think if I take out the Kingston ram and leave the Geil ram in that would be ok? Or do I still need to get the other ram?

I get not bad temps on the stock cooler at the moment its 38c at idle and under load about 51c do you think that is ok?

thanks

Re: Overclocking Help

Try removing the Kingston stick(s). The Geils should do the job pretty well. And if not? The Corsair kit is nice. You would allready at this stage do your rig a favor getting the Kingston Value out of the case. This, as the rig will run at the slower RAM stick(s) speed.

That's why it's the best approach to buy identical RAM when upgrading.

Well, those temps could be considered as o.k. But not a good platform for overclocking really.

Cuz that is the temps you should have AFTER the oc about.

The danger treshold for an AMD is about 65C. And after that you are in real trouble. And AMD cpu's, wont like the Intels do, just throttle down when overheated. The AMD cpu will just head right for the bin in a puff of smoke.

That's why it's essential to do stability and temp tests / monitoring, in between the raising the clocks.

And do not enable "Cool n' quiet" in the mobo bios! That will make the oc, go bananas on you.

You're welcome.
