Printer?

So I'm looking to get a new printer and was looking for some suggestions. I would prefer for it to be wireless so that I do not need to have one of my computers on in order to print documents from my other computers. Something that prints photos decently would be nice.

My HP PSC 1510 finally crapped out on me. Or at least I think so. It looks like an ink cartridge exploded inside the printer and now whenever I try to print something (in color or in black/white) the sheet comes out blank. I know the tri-color cartridge is empty, but the black is a little under half full. Anyways, the printer has served me well enough for the past few years. It's time to get a new one. Haha.

Re: Printer?

I have always liked Canon. Great quality both mechanical and print vice. Separate cartridges for each colour is also a very nice thing.

This is cheaper at Best Buy it seems.

Re: Printer?

Well, the price does not matter much as I will be able to get it cheaper or as cheap as NewEgg's price through my BBY discount. And I don't hafta pay shipping. Haha.

I was thinking about going with a Cannon. It seems from what I've been reading of reviews that the Cannons are definitely smiled upon.

I don't need the fax feature. Although the duplexing feature is handy.

EDIT: I decided to go with the MP620. The wireless setup was a little sluggish. The best I could tell, it requires being connected to the computer to do the initial setup. Whereas all the other wireless printers I've set up can be done through the LCD screen.

Re: Printer?

Besides from that. What are your thoughts about it?

Re: Printer?

Pros:

- Paper cartridge and top paper feeder so I don't have to leave paper sticking out in the open.
- Easy to use UI on the built-in LCD screen.
- Clear document printing. I was able to print 4 pages to a sheet of paper from a PDF and could read the print clearly. This was without increasing the default quality setting.
- Separate ink cartridges that are easy to install and open access for my hands to reach in and replace them when the time comes (so many printers give me issues with this).
- Once connected to the network it was easy to install on other computers.
- Quiet when printing.

Cons:

- WiFi setup could be a little pain. Nice that I wasn't forced to enter my huge WPA2 key using the built-in LCD display. But I didn't like being forced to install software and connect the printer through a USB cable to set it up. If I was someone unfamiliar with this stuff it would have been confusing and I can definitely see someone paying GeekSquad the $50 addon to install their printer to the network.
- According to my girlfriend it's "ugly". Although I don't really care what it looks like. It's better than the somewhat comparable HP printer that's glitter-brown and black.

Overall I'm pleased with the printer. I have yet to printer a photo, but from what I've read they're up to par with HP's standard of photo quality. I picked up a 100 pack of Canon's 4x6 Plus Glossy II paper for some smaller photo print outs.

Re: Printer?

Glad you liked (most of) it.

And you can tell your gf, that very few printers will win any pc hardware beauty contest lol.

If the Canon printer are up to HP standard photo quality? Then, you should get pretty nice prints on that photo paper. At least from what I have seen from a couple of good HP printers.
