Vid Cards

OK so for Christmas I didn't get a Geforce 2 card (unless my grandparents send it, but I doubt it). Now I am going to buy one and I am not sure where and which one to get. I am most likely going to get a GeForce 2 MX400 64mb SDRAM, but I am not sure from where.

First I was looking at Compusa and might get it there...Geforce 2, from Compusa

The i saw it from buy.com and it is cheaper GeForce 2, From Buy.com. I am also not sure if Buy.com is a reliable site to buy from. Has anyone ever bought from there?

I decided to look at Newegg.com because I know they have some good prices and service. There I saw a VISIONTEK Xtasy 5632 GEFORCE2 GTS-V 32MB AGP. for $65...Geforce 2 GTS, from Newegg.com I know a Geforce 2 GTS is better then a Geforce 2 MX400, but it is only 32mb compared to the Geforce 2 having 64mb. So is that a big difference?

I also saw some other Geforce 2's from NewEgg.com GeForce2's from NewEgg.com

Then I got a site from pricewatch and Found an Appolo GeForce2 MX400 64mb for $55...GeForce 2 from Buyaib.com But I have never heard of that site and don't know anything about so I don't think I will order from it.

I want to know which card I should go with and which one is the best to buy price wise, and if these are good places to buy from.

You should stick to either VisionTek or PNY because they have lifetime warranties. I will be buying my GeForce 2 Ti from a BestBuy. The Card you want is $99 there. How much is the shipping on buy.com for it? If your total is less than $99, get it, if not, go to BestBuy. Also, you might consider a Radeon 7500. I think its a bit more powerful than the GF2MX400 and is the same price.

Skyhn, RADEONS are by far an exelent card. The drivers are a bit on the lacking side though. The best bet would be the geforce 2, since the drivers are much more reliable.

If you get a radeon, don't expect to be able to play every game you buy. ATI has crappy drivers, and frequently their cards won't work with today's games.

Get the geforce 2

The amount of memory in the card will not affect to a great extent how well your games pale. The memory may help in larger textures but it showsno arguable advance in framerates compared to a 32meg version.

I would get the geforce at newegg(sorry i didn't see urt post before i psted this on another thread). IT will be much better than an mx 400 will ever be and the card is only 70 bucks with shipping.

Well the shipping from buy.com is $8 so it comes out cheaper then BestBuy and CompUSA. But the prices at NewEgg.com are the best conmpared to any place by far. Since the GF2 Ti is a much better card then the GF2MX400 and only about $40 less, I will probabaly get that at NewEgg.com (just have to wait for a few more paycecks )
