Post Motherboard Options

Ok, Current spec's

Asus p3bf-6 Mobo
Intel p3 700e
256 toshiba ram
2-20g IBM deskstars
Plextor 8/4/32a CDRW
Toshiba 48x standard CdRom
Sblive Xgamer
Matrox G400 Dual Max 32
A whatever floppy
SC supermicro 760-a case
350 watt power supply

Everything works fine, no major issues
runs win2k without a problem.

Problem- This motherboard does not allow me to upgrade the processer. Its at the limit.
Given the fact that I need to upgrade soon in order to remain competive with laggys dual processer monster machine. I need to find a MoBo that will support the current hardware and allow for expansion. My plan was to go with dual 700's. And add another stick of ram to bring this one up to 512.

Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

The only other option I could come up with was to leave this one as is and redo the 1 gig AMD. But I knida like this machine and the AMD runs fine and is loaded with the kids stuff. I don't think I could take seeing them abusing this one. So I kinda ruled this out.

You might try MOBOT out if you need a list of boards. Just put in the features you want. MOBOT

Only problem I see might be using your current CPU. I've heard you should buy your CPU's together to insure they work together. Even someting as the CPU's being from different weeks or made on different lines can affect stable SMP operation.

I'm not sure of all the details but it's worth loking into before you have to spend money. I'll do some digging on it myself when I get home from work later.

If you had to, you could always sell the current board and go with an Abit VP6 motherboard. That would leave you with some newer features and you could slap a couple of Socket370 Screaming Meemee's on it..hehe

Check the hardware reviews for January, there's a few revieews on it if you're interested.

My Asus CUSL2 is nice. Only upgrade able to p3 933 and 512mb sdram supposedly. It might have some compatability problems with your x-gamer though. It's not a dual proc board though.
BTW, could you run dual procs if they are different? or for it to run best should they be the same?

If you don't want that 700e I will take it 8)

Well dual p3's are quite impressive sounding 8) but it's all depending on the mobo. Heck my mobo out of stock has settings for 155x8.0=1240mhz max which will fit anyneeds by me eheheh. If you want high bandwith and great processing speed but not the best gameplay you could go with the xeon's which look quite inpressive. I have heard of the Quad p3's but never dared to glare at them. MAybe thats what you want eheheh. There nice boards out there and this SoYo 6ba+ IV seems to run nice and has run stable at 133mhz fsb and has 5xPCI 2xISA (1 is shared pci/isa) and one AGP port. Which is quite nice little board and will hold that 700 8).
You also could go with the P3 boards with the RDram slots and redo the ram as well. Supermicro has some nice duel p3 proc boards with rdram slots. It all depends on what you want and what you need. I suggest a good bit of looking around 8)
