Minor Web Browser (FireFox) Problem

My browser no longer opens some documents/files within the browser like it used to (e.g. opening Word documents directly in the browser, accessing Winamp Playlist (*.pls) audio streams from the internet no longer opens Winamp automatically.) Just happened one day. I now have to save the file to the hard disk in order to open it. Any ideas why opening from Firefox no longer works?

Re: Minor Web Browser (FireFox) Problem

you can set firefox to ask you on each file if you want to open it or save it to disk.

But when I click the link, NOTHING happens. Momentary hourglass, then nothing. Already been in those FireFox settings anyway, didn't help.
