Peer to peer wireless network?

Hi guys, I've just started university, moving into the halls of residence. I've got internet in my room via ethernet, but even when using an uplink hub, I can only get one compter connected at a time (I have two, a desktop for gaming and a laptop for my uni work, etc..).

What I was hoping to do is use my desktop to connect to the internet, then set-up some type of wireless connection between my desktop and my laptop - is this possible? If so, how do you do it?

My laptop has wireless built in, and I have a USB wireless dongle for my desktop.

Cheers
