I've been having connectivity issues and need some assistance. I have a cable modem (
D-Link DCM-202), a router (
Linksys WRT54G), and cable internet service through Comcast.
Previously, before I had any problems, I had my cable modem connected to the cable line, my router connected to the modem, and my two computers and printer connected to the router. I was running this way for two years without any problems. I was able to remote desktop to my home machine from work, remotely connect to the web interface of my router, and do pretty much anything I was able to do from home.
I noticed the problems when I was unable to remote into my computer. Thinking that the IP had changed (I don't pay for a static address), I waited until I got home and checked. I didn't have any connectivity.
I've replaced everything on my network. The modem, the router, my network card, the rj45 cables, the coax cables, and even had somebody come and test the line. Everything seems fine individually, but when it's all plugged in it doesn't work.
When I unplug my router, and plug the modem directly to my computer, I have a connection, and everything works. Others can ping my address with 0% packet loss. As
*soon* as I plug in the router, I lose all connectivity, and am unable to be pinged.
Also, when the router is connected, I cannot access the web interface through 192.168.1.1. I've tested this with three different routers (the original, a brand new one of the same model, and a brand new one of a different make/model), and they all behave the same way.
I took the routers to work to test them, and they all work perfectly. Which makes me think that the hardware isn't bad...
Any suggestions on what else I can do? Having only one computer connected to the internet is not an option.
