Re: problems

If you're on dial-up, disconnects are sometimes common, and I'd check the phone line cable to make sure there's not a short or something. If all seems fine, call your ISP and see if they're having server issues, and see if they can help you. Otherwise call your phone company and see what they can do for you.

If it's cable Internet, are you behind a router?

Also, what do you do to remedy the problem? Do you just open a new page and yer fine, or try reloading it? Do you get any message in the system tray? Any reconnection icon or similar? Or does everything continue to go as though nothing's wrong and it just suddenly starts working again?

Re: problems

If you have a router it might be helpful to unplug it for a few seconds and then plug it back in. If you don't then if your modem is an exterior one try doing the same thing. It may also be helpful to keep either one where you can clearly see all the lights. I keep having to reset my router and can tell that it's the problem when 1 or more of the lights that is supposed to be on goes out. Since I have VOIP usually the phone connection light is the first one to blink off - and then the web connection also has a problem even when the other lights are normal.

Re: problems

Have you scanned for any spyware or other kinds of malware? Make sure you use something like Spybot Search & Destroy to get rid of any spyware, and definitely scan with a virus scanner. Does this only happen when MSN is open?

Re: problems

Avast and AVG work quite well. Do some online scans like Bit Defender and such. I hate Norton since it just bogs a system down.

Aye aye! McAfee's gotten almost as bad too. Go to www.avast.com and download the home edition instead.
