Weird website issue

Hey, I moved into dorms recently [ college freshman ] and I've been having a weird problem with the internet.

It seems I have a hard time loading a few select [ like one or two ] websites. It takes like 10 seconds when it usually took around 4. The main website is teamliquid.net and it's not a very graphically intense website and I've been going to it for years.

I tried removing cache private data browsing options and it did nothing. I tried a tracert to the site and it usually timed out on two of the hops. Other people tell me they are going fine to the website. I am using firefox and it loads almost all other pages normally.

I also tried ipconfig /release and /renew through cmd. I'm out of ideas, what could this be?

Edit: I also don't think it's something my college ISP did because I can torrent and everything else just fine.

Shit happens.

Re: Weird website issue

Are you connecting via cable or wireless? If cable, then try another.

Re: Weird website issue

Well... would that be the cause for something specific as this?

I'm running an ethernet cord I bought from the front desk since I forgot mine at home X_x

So I only have this one but I'll try switching the ends for now.

Edit: Still the same problem...

Re: Weird website issue

If the connections are a bit flakey it may be a coincidence that it happens on these sites. Switching the ends would make no odds, same cable, same problem.
This was only a thought.
How about your firewall? try turning it off & see if you get a connection. Not very likely though.
Are you able to try another ethernet socket? It could be something set up on a server or switch that is causing this.

Re: Weird website issue

Well I got my hands on another cable, one I used at home for a while and still the same problem.

All I have is windows firewall and that didn't change anything.

I only have one socket in my room so no hope there either =\

This is really strange though, it really only happens for two websites, one of which I'm pretty sure has a shitty server but the other [ teamliquid.net ] is the only one that loads slow. My torrent speeds are fine as are my downloads which are around 1mb/s. I can upload fine, I can open all other webpages even very graphically intense ones pretty quickly.

G_G

Edit: I was thinking it might be my browser because I noticed it had trouble loading little icons on the said page, you know like the little square paper with shapes on it and it would load eventually after that. I'm running firefox 2 though, maybe the last windows update did something?

Re: Weird website issue

I just tried the teamliquid site & it is rather slow. I also run Firefox, but have noticed no decrease in speed since any Windows updates (yet). It probably is just down to the speed of these particular sites servers.
We notice a reduction in our networks Internet speed at certain times of day. The afternoon seems really slow, this could be down to the fact that the USA is just waking up (I am in the UK) or it could just be a local thing.
As you say 'shit happens'
