Modem Drops

Ok, so i'm browsing the internet, and then all the sudden i lose connection. My wireless stays connected, it doesnt appear that my connection to my router is gone, just that i have "limited or no connectivity" i get these drops about every hour or so. I've called the cable company, and they said they'd have to send someone out to fix it, which i dont want to deal with. think its the cable modem, or one of its connections? Or is the cable company right?

Re: Modem Drops

Me and my roommates actually had this problem recently when we moved into our new place. They gave us a bunch of run-around about how our modem wasn't their brand, and that we weren't using their "recommended router," but what it turned out to actually be was a damaged line. Apparently a tree fell on it. Or more truthfully, sat on it and got fat. I'm not saying this is what's wrong, but if it's sudden and you've made no changes, I'd have them take a look at your connection, and if it's weak, inspect the line near your place. Wow, I really like commas, eh?

Re: Modem Drops

lol, indeed you do. yea, well i did move my modem upstairs the other day, however that was only to find that my connection upstairs is bad due to bad wiring they told me. So i put it back in it's old location, and now it's worse. So idk what i could have done, i guess maybe it was me, but they say it's their lines....who knows. i guess they'll have to come out here.

Re: Modem Drops

Well, unless you pulled the jack outta the wall when you moved it the first time, I doubt it was anything you did if you reverted to your original setup. (All the same wires and such.) There's always a possibility that you could have damaged a cable in transit, but if they've already said it's their wires, I'd believe them. If it's the same company we dealt with, they really don't like admitting that things are their fault or responsibility, heh.

Re: Modem Drops

I saw the cable company up the street yesterday. They must have been working on something, because it hasn't dropped since. man...that cable company, always up to no good.

Re: Modem Drops

Had a similar problem myself, but I lost connection altogether. Got on to my broadband provider, but didn't get a reply straight away. A few days later my broadband came back & a couple days after I had a call from the company to ask if everything was working again.
I think they had a big problem, but wouldn't admit it.

Re: Modem Drops

sounds about right...big companies never want to admit their faults... damn shame, they should just be honest with us.

Re: Modem Drops

Sounds like you have it going again now... sucks when problems like that pop up and you have no power to fix it... I feel so helpless when my internet dies!!!!!
