Hello, I have a HPCompaq nx 9010 notebook running windows xp professional.
I cannot get the screen resolution better than 1024x768 pixels - i am sure that i should be able to get better than this as well as improve the refresh rate beyond 60hz.
Can anyone offer some advice or assistance. Thanks
Your screen resolution and refresh rate are dependent on your video card. There is no way to push your resolution or refresh rate past what your video card allows.
Why are you so sure you should be able to go past your current max?
It depends on your Video Card as well as your monitor. I know, I have a Nvidia GeForce FX5700 Ultra, and it allows 2048x1523 or something like that. Yet my monitor only supports up to 1280x1024
According to the specs of the laptop from HP/Compaq:
14.1-inch XGA (1024 x 768), or 15.0-inch XGA (1024 x 768) or SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) active-matrix (TFT) LCD display
So it cant go any higher than 1024x768 @ 60hz. Its a really good idea to know everything about a PC or laptop before you buy them, so theres no surprises when you get it home. I see it happen so many times.
