Compaq Presario Quickrestore problem

Hi I have a Presario 3000 laptop and bought a new laptop and wanted to sell the Presario, so I went ahead and started a Quickrestore and about a quarter way through it just cut off and this was after the HD was formatted. I have tried several times and the same thing happens it just shuts down at different places of the restore, I have gotten as far as inserting the 2nd disk (out of four) before it cuts off. I even tried to boot up from the Windows XP OS Disk and that has even failed, Do you have any suggestions? I read some other cases on this web site already that were similar to mine. Thanks

there shouldnt be a need to include the OS with it. you do have a responsibility to make sure the components are all working properly however. try installing the retail version of xp. if that doesnt go, you probably have something wrong with it.

if it has a floppy drive..use a boot floppy, even win98...use the fdisk function and wipe the drive then try installing again.
