Thumbs down Verizon DSL

I had verizon dialup service for about 1 week for free until the Verizon DSL was available in my area. Now I've had nothing but problems with it and I've only had DSL for 2 weeks. I've called Verizon every other day and called again today. When you get on the internet the page says I still have dialup service but I don't they said they will fix it they haven't. And because It says I have dialup service I can't get any sub-accounts. And now when ever I get on the internet and I have to use the phone I get disconnected from the game or site that I'm on. They said finally today that they will send someone out to my house in 2 days to fix it. I'll believe it when I see it.

Re: Verizon DSL

did you remove the dial up software from verizon that allowed you internet access while you waited?

Are you using a dsl modem now that you have the dsl service. if so is it a modem provided by verizon?

It is possible that although you have dsl service your system is still set-up to dial a connection. you will need to go through your internet settings and change your connection from dial up to LAN.
Depending on your browser this will vary but if your using internet explorer open a browser window and click the "tools" option at the top of the window, go to internet options then click the connections tab. Click on the button that says "LAN Settings" and check the box that says "Automatically detect my settings" then click ok and close the browser window. Open a new browser window and if your "DSL" modem is properly connected it should automatically detect your settings and display your home page.

you may also want to try disable your dial up modem in the device manager to prevent it from dialing a connection also.

Re: Verizon DSL

thank you very much I will try that. I do have the modem that verizon gave me. DSL says that it is Verizon telephone is my problem but I already had the telephone people come out and they checked it and said everything is hooked up correctly. Supposedly they are going to send someone out here tomorrow (3/22) to check things out. They also said they will call me first to make sure I will be home and so far I haven't received any phone calls. When the phone rings I loose the connection to the internet. Well If I don't get any help by tomorrow I will have to call again and yell some more.
Thanks for your advice again and I will try it.

Re: Verizon DSL

whats the model number on the modem? Brand?

if you have a "dsl" modem hooked up to your computer you shouldnt be able to "dial" a connection with it. so if your still connecting as dial up your not using a dsl modem.

you stated when you get to the internet it says you still have dial up? what says this?

it sounds to me like you are still connecting with your dial up hardware.
