Windows Crash

Hi Guys, me again :P.

Having installed a fresh copy of XP SP2, and reinstalling my chipset and device drivers, my PC seemed to be working fine. In fact, its the best it has worked in a long time.

However, shortly after logging into the browser based game Second Life (SL), my computer bricked up and i couldnt even move the mouse or start windows task manager, there wasnt even a blue screen of death!

Having reset it, I tried again, and within about 60 seconds of playing the game, my computer crashed again. So I reinstalled my video drivers snd left it at that. Then today, after about 3 hours of playing the mmorpg guild wars, the same thing happened with that too.

I have now installed XP SP2 for the third time and it is still happening, therefore I really need your help as I have no clue what is causing the problem.

Thanks.

Re: Windows Crash

Were you sure to download the drivers from the manufacturer's website and not Windows Update? Also, were you sure to run all the Windows Updates after re-installing?

And the usual, make sure to scan for spyware and viruses. Lastly, if it's still actin' goofy... check the temperatures. I'm sure goranpaa can recommend a good program.

Please give us a little more info on yer computer too.

Re: Windows Crash

Hi , yep i was sure to do that... Just a quick question though as I think I may have solved the problem...

Can a faulty ram stick cause these sort of random crashes? I only ask because i just took my ram out of the crashed pc and put it in to my spare one and a similar shutdown occured (only this time it didnt brick just went off).

Yes, it is possible that faulty memory can cause this. Test the memory with memtest (google it). Otherwise someone else might have a specific link to it.
