Doom 3 Installation problems.

Ok...Here's my massive problem. I purchased Doom3 recently from Walmart, and I came home and installed it onto my Vaio. I finished installing it, and I clicked play, and then that's when the problems arose. The screen flickers a few times, like its really trying to start, and then it gives me a blue box with error letters.

Re: Doom 3 Installation problems.

The ansver lies within this message: #ERROR: The current video card / driver combination does not support the necessary features#.

So probably your videocard is too old or weak, to support the games pixelshaders etc the game requires. Just the fact that your videocard have 32mb video memory tells me this card cant run Doom 3 properly. 128mb videocard memory is the minimum amount.

What videocard do you have?

I ran Doom 3 on my GeForce 4 MX440. Haha. It wasn't horrible, just a little laggy in some spots. But yeah, you should probably have at the very least 64MB.

Should always check the min. requirements of a game beofre buying it. If your card is supported, update the drivers and DirectX if you're not using the latest version.

Re: Doom 3 Installation problems.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll drop drop some coin on a new video card, because if it needs upgrading for Doom3, then it will get upgraded. By the way, how much do 128mb video cards cost? Nothing too fancy, just enough would be nice. Thanks. It's a Sony Vaio, and I believe it's got an ATX motherboard, in case you need that.

Re: Doom 3 Installation problems.

I think the best bang for buck card would be a 9800Pro.

If you dont mind a refurbished videocard?

REFURBISHED: SAPPHIRE 100556-RD Radeon 9800PRO 128MB 256-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - OEM $99.00

If you do?

SAPPHIRE 100556-RD Radeon 9800PRO 128MB 256-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - OEM $126.00

( I could have said, "Get a Radeon 9800SE, for 80 bucks". But that card is slower and have fewer pixel pipelines. And as you seems to like shooters. I guess you some day buy F.E.A.R. or Condemned. And then you will be glad to have the power of the Radeon 9800Pro.)

Prices,newegg, webshop.

This card is able to play any game.

If you want something better? Then you will have to shell out about 150 bucks for the card. And probably a new powersupply for 70 bucks.

But first, download Everest home, and check if your motherboard is equipped with an AGP port? Check under "Motherboard" and "Expansion slots" for "AGP".

Everest home here:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

If you find, that your mobo does'nt have an AGP port?

Then this PCI videocard will be the best choise:

PNY VCGFX55PPB Geforce FX5500 128MB 128-bit DDR PCI Video Card - Retail $89.00

But dont confuse "PCI videocards" , with PCI Express. PCI Express, wont fit your motherboard.

You can find this cards at newegg, webshop.

Re: Doom 3 Installation problems.

All of this just to play Doom, lol. Yeah, so I went to my local computer store, and since it's getting late in the holidays, it was either the $70 3DFuzion graphics card V2.0. Nvida, or a $179 one, and so I obviously got the cheaper one, since I don't own one of those sweet money trees. Now, in the installation manual for the graphics card, it says to uninstall the graphics card on the computer before I install the new one, and to do that I should by 1.) going to control panel 2.) using add or remove programs 3.) uninstalling graphics card. First, I can't find my manual for my computer, so how am I supposed to know what to uninstall. If you guys just happen to know offhand what the graphics card for a Sony Vaio PCV-RX850 is.....then that'd be just swell. And if you don't do any work(don't blame you) then do you know where I should go to find this out. I did a few searches on yahoo and msn and came up with nothing useful, just prices and people trying to sell it to me, which did me no good. Thanks.

Re: Doom 3 Installation problems.

Right click on My Computer, click Properties, go to Hardware, then click the Device Manager tab. Expand the section for display adapters, and that will be your video card. Right click on that, and uninstall. Then go to Add/Remove programs and you should be able to find something like NVida Drivers, or ATI Drivers, depending on your original card.
