How good is Diablo 2 ?

Hello,
I just thought I would ask some people about how good Diablo2 is. Is it better than Warcraft 3 ?
Please post your opinions. If it is good I might get it so thats why I'm asking how good it is. I like Warcraft 3, just to give you an idea of what type games I like!

ok, well the first thing you need to realise is that diablo II is a different type of game to warcraft III. WIII is of course a real time strategy game building and controlling troops and building, whereas diablo II is a hack n slash rpg where you have the same character throughout the game, sometimes have a henchmen to help you out and spend most of the time running about wacking the attack button as the screen fills with 10s of bad guys.

there is of course more to it than that, it is highly addictive in the way your characters evolve and the variety of items to collect. Whether it is 'better' than Warcraft III? my personal taste says yes but they are very different games.

If you like strategy, fighting with massive armies and stuff, warcraft is the game for you. If you like finding things, leveling up one player and stuff, D2.
But actually you have to play the game to see wether you like the game or not...
There is more to it than what i wrote..
Personally i think the game is awesome, but you can get tired of it after some time. I played a year on battle.net before i got tired..

I don't really play W3, the actual control armie part of the game, I like playing on battlenet mostly. And yeah the idea of having the same hero and leveling up and getting better items sounds pretty good. I think I should look at getting it. Is it very similar to WoW?

Quite similar i think, haven't played WoW but heard much about it. WoW is probably bigger and better in almost every field, but i think D2 can be just as much fun.

diablo II vs WoW is kind of like comparing the best car you can buy for 20k with the best car you can get for 100k. They both do the job great, both classics in their own right. people that can afford it (or have the pc power to run it) may well go for WoW because its prettier and bigger, some would go for DiabloII because its great value for money and thoroughly proven as a reliable proven product.

I personally prefer D2 over WoW. To put things more concretely, I got bored of WoW after playing for 2 weeks. D2? I played it for an entire year, quit, came back and played for a couple more months, quit, came back and played some more ... and so on and so forth.

WoW is indeed prettier and bigger and has a better community. But if you're looking for something fun to play and kill time with, I'd say that Diablo 2 is a little more fast-paced and exciting. I have yet to fall asleep while playing D2, but I have when playing WoW ...

My latest addiction for the past 4 months (which is amazing, because I can't seem to stay focused on any game for more than several weeks nowadays) has been learning and playing Defense of the Ancients on Warcraft 3 RoC.

If you liked the hero maps in Starcraft, this is like, hero maps on crack, with PvP and teamplay thrown in.

Its one of the best if not the best RPGs you can buy for 20 bucks. I would seriously recommend that you get it.

I really dont know what this guy was thinking , Diablo II has been in the top 10 pc games , Lod is number 1 untiil WoW came out, for a long time and still is , and it is a 5-6 year old game, it is one of the best rpg games u can get

I think he just trying to "stirring the pot", for fun by saying it sucks. Or he does'nt know what he's talking about.

Diablo is one of the greatest RPG games ever made. And as anyone can see in this forum. Still alive and kicking....strongly. Do hope Blizzard, stops sitting on their hands. And make a 3:rd version soon.

Diablo II gets old when you get godly, and you get good pretty quick, but nonetheless, the characters are fun, and the strive for richness is addicting. The story gets old really quick, it's the same thing over and over again. Battle net keeps the game going just by putting new rune words in, or features, like recently the "uber trist" where it is almost impossible, unless you're like level 90+ and have plenty of health, and godly items.

But, if you play it once in a while, it's always fun. I just play D2, SC, and CS 1.6 whenever I get bored of another, then later on, I get the urge to play the game again! Though I have played the same games over and over again for years... D2 for five, sc for seven, cs...played three years ago, just started back recently.

Judging from the screenshots, I'd say WoW looks more fun, 'cause it's newer than Diablo II. But Diablo's requirements are low, and WoW's are higher, a bit. I never played WoW, or Warcraft 3, but I can tell you I'd rather play Diablo II than any other RPG, even the new ones like Dungeon Seige II.

The reason D3 is taking so long is that theres no more story, unless they make some kind of new brother of Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, or the lesser evils, or something. Basically, in Diablo 2 you destroy all the bosses -permamently- and you rescue the world from hell and destruction. So I doubt that there would be Diablo 3 anytime soon.

I tend to disagree. I reckon that Diablo (yes, okay its been around the block... a couple of times) will always stay one of those "never say die" games. Playing warcraft and similar games you can only build so much. In my opinion gets pretty boring. With Diablo I tend to get far less bored. Theres just something appealing about the ongoing saga. The basics do stay the same... Kill everything that tries to kill you, but it's like that in all action games. The details are of course different from game to game, but the foundations are the same.

Its common sense, Nobody likes a game where you can't feel mucho about killing something. Right? i mean who still plays checkers when you can run around taking control and kicking ass?!
