speakers or headphones?

So, which is it? Do you like annoying your family/roommates with the screams of your victims? Do ya hate the feeling of anything on your head while you're gaming? Do you use headphones or speakers? What to do you use? I use headphones at night and speakers during the day. For headphones I have this set from OTTO: http://www.hearotto.com/Products_OT6.aspx I like them cuz they're comfy and they sound good. For speakers I have an old pair of JBL 4311B's - studio monitors from the good ol' days.

Re: speakers or headphones?

I prefer the speakers.
But as I have neighbours that I like. After 21:00 in the evening it's headphones on.
I dont think they would appreciate the gunfire and death screams in BF 2 for ex. Or me listening to AC / DC or Naturally 7 on high volume late in the eve or in the middle of the night lol.

Re: speakers or headphones?

I too use speakers during the day, unless I have Vent on, in which case I use my headset.

And during the night it's the headset again. I'm fine with the basic Logitech headset... you know... these: http://www.logitech.com/lang/images/0/1566.gif Haha.

Re: speakers or headphones?

Maybe I'd have fewer headaches if I didn't like my music loud and put my headphones on to keep the neighbors happy. If I had my own house, on the other hand, I'd be using the speakers exclusively. My best headphones have fallen apart finally. 6 years isn't a bad life for free ones though. I got 'em when I signed up for a Rock 'n' Roll Classics collection. Medical problems forced me to stop collecting the set at just 4 discs, but the headphones lasted for at least 6 years. I have my sound plugged into my 6.1 receiver via the RCA jacks. If I could get a coaxial out plate for the SPDIF headers on my mobo I'd be using one of the digital in jacks on my receiver instead.

Yeah, my last pair lasted 8 years, was pretty impressed. A buddy of mine got a set from the same company I got my current pair from, but he got one of their commercial products for the racing industry, and he said that they could take quite a beating and kept sounding excellent.

By the way, upstate NY... I'm from Ithaca originally.

Re: speakers or headphones?

I still haven't found a new pair of speakers, I have to get on that. On the headphones front, I found a promotional code in my receipts that I figured I'd pass on: FREESHIP. It's for free shipping and 10% off on two of the products that Otto makes (bluetooth car kit or integrated headset/mp3 player).

Re: speakers or headphones?

As for speakers. The Logitechs are very nice. Best bang for buck:

Re: speakers or headphones?

That's not a bad price at all. I'll have to look into those. With the headphones for some reason it wasn't imperative for me to hear before I bought, though I was already familiar with commercial products by Otto. With speakers I need to hear them, even though I know they'll sound different once I get them into my space. I'm sure there's somewhere around here with a setup.
