Black Screen but still sound in WC3: Frozen Throne

Whenever I insert the Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos or Frozen Throne, the normal popup screen comes up. It says "Play Warcraft", "View Readme", "View Previews", "Options", and "Exit Iinstaller." When I press "Play Warcraft" the screen maximizes and turns all black like normal, and in a few seconds comes up with the main menu of Warcraft with the effects and all that. But recently, when I've done the same exact thing, when the black screen comes up it stays all black. I can't see anything but i still here the sounds. I can move the cursor around and click the "play" or whatever if I get lucky because I can hear what's going on but there's no video.

The weird thing is, I'm able to watch the Warcraft previews with full video and sound.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS videocard, 512 MB of RAM, Direct X 9.0, and an AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3100+

Could someone please help me out, this never used to happen

odd that it would do that suddenly. the videos would work because they are videos and not 3d content.

try these quick troubleshooting ideas:
right click on your desktop, go to properties, go to display settings on the last tab i believe. then set your resolution to 800x600 and see if that solves the problem.

also try going to here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us and see if you cant get the drivers updated. try those and after that let us know what happens.

thanks for the feedback. I just tried both of these, but the problem still persists =[

Really? wow... no problems with any other games?
I'd maybe try a system restore, but those are always a pain. but if you really want to try and play it...that's be the next step i could offer. any1 else have any ideas?

oh and have u patched the game recently?

Well i took a long break from playing WC3 and recently wanted to start playing again. My flatscreen monitor broke about 6 months ago so i got this sorta old one, could that be the problem?

But no I haven't played Frozen Throne for a while so i probably haven't updated anything on it

try getting their newest patch:

be sure to get the 'full 1.21b patch' that way it'll fix as many problems as it can.

I just downloaded the patches, but it still happens

besides a system restore, i'm out of ideas man... sry.
it would seem that your computer is being, what we in the computer business like to refer to as "being gay". usually if you kick it a few times, it'll come around in the end.

hope someone else can help you out with it... i'm fresh out of ideas.

yea, i tried reinstalling the game multiple times.

I'm running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Great, now I'm trying to run GTA3: San Andreas and when i double click the desktop shortcut it says there's an error with it.

It says "gta_sa.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Then there's 2 options saying "send error report" or "don't send"

I tried reinstalling that.... but still same problem

do you only have the one video output or do you have embedded video on your mobo? if not, maybe an old video card you can test to see if it's a GPU problem?

Umm, I'm not sure what you mean by that. I'm not good a wiz at that type of stuff :s

But I'm pretty sure I don't have an old videocard to test it with.

You said you have an Nvidia video card, I'm assuming this is a PCIx video card and not embedded. Some mobos have video embedded into the video card so if you look at the back of your comp you'll have a VGA or DVI plug from your video card and another VGA output from your mobo. If you have that second integrated video card, then you could plug a second monitor (or if you only have one, plug your main monitor into that plug instead for testing purposes) and see if the problem persists with both plugs. This will tell you if its a mobo problem.
