Re: XP games on Vista

From what I have read, it should be possible to use a dualboot solution: Vista and XP on a laptop.

Check this guide for more information. To me it looks pretty interesting, although I have no plans on trying it myself since I mainly deal with Linux at the present (what a relief!).

(B.t.w. use the guide at your own risk, I'm not sure if it works myself)

Re: XP games on Vista

Some games do have updates or patches that'll make them work for Vista. If it's not from the official company though, I would be careful.

As mentioned above, a dual-boot is an option; but keep in mind that you must have a full copy of Windows XP to do so on a new computer. You cannot use a manufacturer's reinstall disc and you cannot use an upgrade disc. Not sure if that's covered in the guide, but it could save you some time if it's not.

CoolerMaster Centurion 534
Asus P5B Deluxe (w/ WiFi)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

250GB 7200 RPM SATA Maxtor
2 x 1TB WD MyBooks
BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB

Laptop: HP dv6885se

Re: XP games on Vista

Did you try setting compatibility? If you set up a desktop link to the game you can run it in XP SP2 compatibility mode. It will handle a bunch, but not all of the issues. Depends on the game.

I have a Gateway FX laptop (2.2-64 Intel Dual, Vista Home Premium, 4G Ram, Nvidia 9800). Some games work, some don't even in compatibility mode. But it is an easy enough thing to try.

Someone said it was the start of virtualization for MS, touted heavily in W7.
