Should advertisments/banners be shown on OTS?
Due to increasing server costs, I am planning on putting in a tiny bit of targetted advertising on the site next year.
This is just a little poll about your thoughts on banner advertising. This will not affect any final decisions I have at the end of the year, though, but it's good to hear what people think

as much as i dislike banner ads, it doesnt matter to me as long as the ads are small not those huge ones, or popups. you could get the ones on the side that you can close (the ones that i think are mainly on geocites or yahoo sites, it sort of a popup but not the really annoying ones)those ones dont bother me.

I voted other. I don't mind banner ads if they are not invasive or irritating (i.e. bright flashing graphics, etc.). Pop-ups would be bad, but they don't bother me (literally), because I use Opera.
Targeted adverts are the way to go, though. I wouldn't mind seeing ads that pertain to the content of the site, and since this is a technically oriented site, I'd expect to see adverts of a similar nature; not debt reduction or classmate search adverts and the like.
That's just my opinion though. Ultimately, it's whatever it takes to keep the site up and running, because someone has to foot the bill.

Same as bsaically everyone else:
Banner ads aren't too bad
Pop-Ups are of the Devil
But, whatever it takes to keep the site up ... this site is too great of a resource that it should not go under.
Ever seen that commecial with the guy on the computer that looks like he's playing a game, but he's killing pop-ups, making sound effects and all? Heheh

Just don't allow anything that takes over the browser or plays music/sound, and it's fine.

heh, a quiet discrete ad is fine. flashing, sound, and/or popups will result in a lynching. the ads wargy has on tg arent bad.

Doesn't really matter either way.
Banner ads don't bother me at all. As long as they're not the flash ads with sound and are impossible to close. I hate those things, heh. Banner ads aren't really invasive at all, so, whatever works.

As long as it's not pop-ups that appear everytime you click on another section and it doesn't interfere with my music, I don't really care about banners.

I pretty much agree with what the others have said and think that any ads should certainly be targeted and appropriate for this forum. The kind of ads you might see on Tom's Hardware or Andantech, for example.

I would prefer not to see the banners and ads and would like it to be for unregistered members, but if it is a must to keep the site up I will not mind.

If they are small, dont use flash, and are definitely not pop-ups, then I have no problem with ads.
