What do you think of the new OTS layout?

The Umbra Layout has been unleashed, and it's been getting mixed reactions. Let us know what you think!

Overall, I like it. It's a bit busy and will take a little getting used to.

One thing I'm thinking might help -- you need an accent color for highlight (like an orange, yellow, or the old OTS bright green). Not used everywhere, but just to make certain things stand out -- like at first glance, it's really hard to tell which forums have new posts in them, since the blue OTS symbol is pretty close in value (not color, but value -- uh, hard to explain art concept, something to do with brightness and contrast) to the greyed-out no-new-posts thing.

Also, the forum names get kinda lost, since they're the same color as thicker lines surrounding them. Either the lines need to me much thinner, or the forum names need to be in a different color.

What she said about the contrast between new posts and not. Aside from that I dig it.

Actually, that has to do with the monitor brightness, coz I work in high gamma, so anything that is bright enough for me might appear too dark for some users ... the carbon-fiber background in the posts, for example, doesn't appear as well for other people as it does for me...

So the whole layout actually looks bright to me ... I'll have tosee how bright I can get the on/off indicators without it appearing whitish on my screen...

Whitish? Wow, your monitor is crazy. I'm using a pretty high-contrast, really bright Sun Microsystems monitor (and yes, I'm using Windows and IE so it's not an Xauthority problem ).

The whole layout is much BRIGHTER, definitely, there's just not enough of a contrast/difference between some things.

Like I said, it's not an issue of how bright (as in light level) the icon is, it's that it's pretty much the same.. uh.. color? contrast level? crap, how do I explain this...

Good point. I forgot I was running EQ minimized in a window and had my gamma cranked up to like 85%

The color contrast is much better in normal gamma levels. I withdraw my complaint.

I like it but I don't know if I like it more than the previous layout yet. I'm gonna try it out for a while to see if I'll get used to it.

I really dig the new system. It was real easy to figure out, and it looks sweet too. Did you do this overnight or what?

Personally, I think it's hideous. It doesn't look nearly as proffesional as the old layout and looks like it was made by a 13 year old that was playing with Photoshop for the first time, especially the menus.

The menus bother me the most though. They stick out like bloated and bleeding sore thumbs. It looks like you pumped em out in 5 minutes with out much thought or effort. (Not saying that's what you actually did of course) I know you could have done a better job with the gradient on the menus. It looks like the blue verticle bar is underneath the side bar on the left, whereas it appears to be adjacent to the sidebar on the right.

I'm not diggin' the colors too much either.

Overall, I'm VERY happy you left the option to use the old layout.

I give it a thumbs up! I think it's much better than the other layout. Just my opinion.

I love the new OTS layout, looks awesome It might take a while to get used to though, a lot of the buttons are in different places. Oh well, the change is great.
