What did you think of the last Lord of the Rings movie?

Today marks the showing of the last installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy - The Return of the King.

This poll once again asks the obvious question that was asked in the poll two years ago when the Lord of the Rings was first shown in theaters - did you like the movie? Did you love it? Did you hate it? Was it all you expected and more?

Let us know what you liked or hated about it - but be careful about posting spoilers for those who haven't read the books...

oh yeah! it was already showing in the US. Good for you people because here in the Philippines, it will have a "gala premiere" on the 19th. well, only for those who can afford it though at something like USD10 a ticket! For those who cant afford it, im also too cheap to spend that much, we'll have to wait till early next year January 9 where it will have its regular screening..sigh!

just came back from seeing it ... three and a half hours of kickass moviemaking!

Yeah, I voted for the first poll option ... I loved it and it is easily one of the best movies of all time, especially if you include the first two LOTR movies. Jackson pulled out all the stops in this last installment... it's like watching three movies in one.

The battle(s) for Minas Tirith easily dwarf the Clone War in Episode II... If you thought the Battle of Helm's Deep was a massive battle, haha... the ending was very satisfying and was actually much better than the book since they included some parts of the appendix to it (which makes up somewhat for parts of the third book that were not included in the movie)...

The best money I spent on movies in a long time... can't wait for the extended DVD edition

I dunno about other states, but here in Los Angeles, I paid $7.50 for my matinee tickets (so what is that, more than 410 pesos in Flip cash? hehe) ... regular ticket price here for non-matinee is around $10 to $12 depending on the theater (more than 550-650 pesos if you convert it)...

SPOILER: (highlight to read)
The battle at Pelennor Fields came in three or four phases in the movie, so yes, it's almost two times longer than the battle of Helm's Deep. Each phase was more jaw-dropping then the one before it... A few people watching the movie, including me, can't help but say "woohoo!" with each phase... Awesome is gross understatement for the battles in this movie, hehe...

Return of the King

Went and saw it last night with a chick from work, ****ing good flick. With all the shit he cut out I can't believe it's almost 3.5 hours long. Rumor is he cut out over an hour for the theatrical edition, so the extended DVD will be upwards of five hours.
Oh, and hi, my internet connection is working again, whole setup was fried by a static charge over a week ago.

i heard that it was good, but the begining was weird and the end dragged on... and that two towers was the best of the 3 films... going to see it tonite to decide for myself though...

5 hr directors cut... when they release the 600 disc collectors edition of the trilogy i think there should be a contest of who can watch all content w/o passing out

I don't think this is a spoiler but just in case...

SPOILER: (highlight to read)
I saw it yesterday after work and I thought it was by far the best of the three. The battle of Pelinore(sp?) fields was just about the most exciting half hour of cinema I've ever seen...the Oeliphants(?sp) were amazing.

The ending was just plain ridiculous. I almost counldn't believe that PJ could let that happen. After the hobbits came back to the shire, every time a new scene started everyone in the theater started laughing becuase the damn thing just wouldn't end. I could have easily sat through an extra hour of the scouring of the shire and his other cuts though.

i have a question for those who've already seen this movie. [yeah, i know, that's what this thread is for, right?]
DO you think PJ really did justice to Saruman's character by not letting him appear in the final trilogy's theatrical version?
I've heard stories from those already seen the movie that it's really WHOOOOAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! [indescribable! and as Canis said awesome is a gross understatement] EXCEPT that the ending is freakin' tooo long [bout 25 minutes of shaking and hugging celebrating hobbit's and stuffs]

Saruman is never missed in the movie ... he is only mentioned a couple of times during the beginning of the film, when Gandalf and company visited the flooded Isengard and picked up Merry and Pippin. I actually agree wholeheartedly to his no-show in the final installment ... with the Scouring of the Shire absent (or at least, not shown in the theatrical version), Saruman has no major role in the movie anymore.

I think the 30 minute ending was appropriate just to tie off all the loose ends opened in the first two films. In fact, it actually feels rushed to me, especially if you consider that a significant part of the third book was not included in the movie... a couple of entries in the timeline appendix were made into short scenes, while the most memorable last part of that same appendix wasn't even present

SPOILER: (highlight to read)
where Gimli, who hated water and elves, sailed off in a ship with his great elvish friend Legolas, to return to the homeland of the elves - and thus the last members of the fellowship of the ring passed on and the adventures end...

With a rumored one hour to be added to the extended DVD release, we might actually see a significant amount of additional scenes ... maybe even see the Scouring after all...
