Important Changes to the Rants & Raves Forum

Important Changes to the Rants & Raves Forum

This is to inform our registered members that our Rants & Raves Forum (our little area where members discuss controversial and no-holds barred topics and debates) is now converted into a "permission only" forum. This means that those who want to view the topics and participate in the forum should ask permission in order to gain access.

This was done due to a several of our members who seemingly misinterpret Open Tech Support's purpose and goals by judging the site based on the topics discussed in the R&R Forum (those who judge the site based on the actions of a select few). This is, obviously, a flawed way of looking at OTS and this is our way of properly separating an irrelevant forum from the site's goal, which is (surprise!) technical support.

Those who wish to gain access to our Rants & Raves Forum should use our contact form and tell us that they want to participate in that forum. Make sure to read the rules and regulations before you ask for permission.

We hope this will improve the focus of the site and separate the people who only wish to engage in off-topic debates from those who want technical support and talk about technology.

Why not just get rid of it? Rant-Rave forums are always going to get out of hand, that's what rants are about! Real problem is too many immature individuals who do not understand how to have a adult discussion pertaining to controversial topics! Though typical in a forum.

Because if you remove the rants and raves outlet, everything that gets segregated into that area will spill over into the other forums.

Not everyone who participates in the R&R forum are out to flame, smurf or troll ... it was intended for controversial debates and, as Gun said, without it members would congregate in the Off Topic forums and it will basically appear as if we just merged R&R with OT, which was not our intention.

This new format for R&R enables us to encourage people to go the extra mile if they want to genuinely see the topics that are too sensitive to be discussed in a tech support site. This way, we are not preventing anyone from expressing themselves, and at the same time, those who merely browse the boards casually will not be exposed to these topics, and in the process, possibly misinterpret the purpose of this site based on those discussions.

Besides, no reason for you to complain about alleged immature individuals now, unless you ask permission to actually listen to them

Yes, I understand what your saying, I misunderstood what the original intent was in your posting about the rant-rave forum. From your post I thought you were having an issue with it. As for my statement on immature individuals, I only was referring to other rant-rave forums I have seen. I did not mean this one as I have not had any experience with it yet.
