Regarding the recent (and upcoming) downtime for OTS...

This is to let our members and visitors know that we are aware of the recent downtime of the Open Tech Support site in the past few days.

We discovered that the hard drive on our server has been encountering problems, which led to sporadic downtime that happens approximately noon to early afternoons (pacific time), as well as the recent downtime that took place for the most part of today. We will be transferring our site data to a new hard drive on Monday (06/07/04), which will hopefully stop the downtime and put the site back to normal.

Hence, expect some more sporadic downtimes tomorrow, and especially on Monday (06/07/04), while we try to transfer our site to another hard drive. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we thank you for your continued patience regarding this troublesome issue.

And thanks for continuing to visit our site! Have a nice weekend.

Well, our host provider has flaked on us regarding the hard drive move last Monday - might happen next week, instead ... I'm considering moving to another provider because of this ... stay tuned

we switched providers several times before because we outgrew them ... this time, we're just terribly inconvenienced by em our host provider was doing very well before they got bought out and merged with another hosting company early this year, and since then their service and support has gone downhill...

Hmm, thanks for the suggestion wench, but looking at their site gives me the impression of a startup business - not sure I wanna gamble with that, I hate moving servers to something that's potentially unreliable in terms of longevity

And the fact that I have to "contact" them to order a dedicated server solution drove me away, lol ...

Anyway, I have chosen http://www.theplanet.com ... will start moving the site(s) there in the next couple weeks...

A server move doesn't take a day or even two days ... the next couple of weeks we'll be backing up files, and moving them gradually to the new server ... so in a week or two, the file transfers will be done and OTS will start operating on the new server via a DNS update. I guess I just rephrased it safely this time, so members won't be asking "are we there yet? are we there yet? ..."

Isn't Genmay hosted on ThePlanet? Or maybe some other big site, I know I have heard of it before.
