Well it seems everyone was pissed at England during the late 1700s, so yes, Spain did help in a way during the American Revolution. England was pretty much at war with everyone and fighting on all fronts and it just so happens that France and Spain had footholds in the new world to stage war on this side of the Atlantic. Though it should be pointed out that Spain did not actually ally with the US, they allied with France in the war against the British.
