Well...
Without saying 'That' name, it really is a matter of choice.
The top three would be Nort....err... sorry, McAfee (I think my fingers are burning at typing that one, yuk), or AVG Anti-Virus by Grisoft (though I have not seen this one).
You might be able to find some others doing a net search, perhaps some independants out there, but those are really the three best out there.

I would say the anti-virus software is just a secondary thing. You really should be worried about what you download and install. I've been virus-free for a little over 2 years without anti-virus software.

if you dont have av software, how do you know youre virus free?
most virii nowadays dont come in an obvious download, although some does. they come from scripted websites, emails, and plain old port probes.

lol
it misses a lot, they all do. one on your computer and the occasional online scan will generally suffice.

i keep my system clean, scanning everything i ever download, never opening atachments, running a firewall, and i still managed to have backdoors on this system from the time i first ran windows update.
you can not say your system is virus free until you download a scanner and scan it.
im really dissapointed in norton, everytime i get a virus, it is because it is too new to be seen by a completely updated norton. im planning on switching soon.

that happens with all of them. they dont update 2 minutes after a virus is released. are you using kazaa or something?

I use Kaspersky, it catches all sorts of things that Norton and Macafee (sp?) miss.
You can find it with a search for Kaspersky.
It is a little confusing to use at first, but works great. It found 2 viruses I had even though the Norton told me I was clean, and I would do regular definition updates with them.
By the way, before you install it, make sure you uninstall Norton. They don't play well together

i will never put kazaa on my sys, usually my viruses come from astalavista trojans - examples: remove aim ads, keyloggers, network sniffers, ip grabbers, just things that interest me and i like to play with. i expect there to be a time period between the time the virus exists and the time they can update.
but the way i find out that i have the virus is: something catches my attention and i do a search for it, it always shows up on mcafee's site well before it shows up on sarc. and they mcafee usually has had it for 3 weeks or so. thats why i consider norton slow.

they all are. i guarantee that mcaffee is later than norton on some too. one av isnt enough, neither is one spywarescanner.
