SBC Yahoo DSL & Yahoo Messenger

When I log onto sbc yahoo dsl it automatically logs me into yahoo messenger. I have my messenger settings to recognize my yahoo ID, except now it will only recognize my main sbc yahoo account (my email address). I DO NOT want to send instant messages with my email address! How do I get it back to following the settings I have made. 5 hours with SBC Yahoo DSL tech support doesn't help!!! I hope someone here can. I'm pulling my hair out...lol
