Computer Crash??

I have a Compaq S4020WM. Earlier today I went to use it and when I moved the mouse instead of returning to my desktop, the image on my screen from my screen saver froze. I could not get it to unlock, so I turned off the computer. When I tried to start it up again, I cannot get anything. The keyboard will light momentarily, but does not stay lit. I get no image on my monitor, judst a black screen. I get nothing. The computer acts like it is going to boot up, but after a quick light on the cd drive, I do not see any indication that the hard drive is doing anything. No amber light flashing that usually tells me the hard drive is working and windows is starting up.

Power to everything seems fine. I can turn the monitor on and off. As turn it on though it almost immediately goes from a green status light to amber. Computer status light is green, fan is working, cd drive opens and closes, but if I put a cd in, the system does not do anything with it. The status light on the drive blinks like it is reading the cd, but no buzzing from the cd turning and no image on the monitor.

At first i thought maybe the computer was stuck in sleep mode, but now that i have figured out that the computer is not even booting up when I turn it on I doubt it.

I have unplugged the power cord to see if it would refresh the system and it does nothing. Have unplugged everyhting from the computer except monitor, keyboard and mouse, but like I said, nothing on start up.

Does anyone know what has gone wrong? Hard drive, mother board, or ???

Also se if the ram is properly seated. If you have more than one stick of RAM? Then take out one at the time and try to boot.
