win xp pro only working in debug mode

right, basically i decided to upgrade to the latest catalyst drivers for my x800pro. I followed the instructions and uninstalled all the old ati stuff first using their uninstaller.

after uninstalling it asked for a reboot, i complied and ever since then it has hung on the windows logo screen.....except when i go in through 'debug mode'. ive run reg checkers, chkdsk to no avail and it works fine in safemode. Ive also left it doing nothing on the logo screen for just over 4 hours... just to make sure (and to give me a break :P)

Now i am hoping someone will be able to help me, either because they have a good idea what the problem might be, or what i should try next...

any help much appreciated

Re: win xp pro only working in debug mode

boot into safe mode with networking and download a different driver version, then install it.

Re: win xp pro only working in debug mode

Lol dude, you resurrected a 3yr old thread.

If you have an older ATI card and tried the new drivers, this seems to cause problems in XP and Vista. I've found finding an older (1 to 2yr old version) driver resolves this problem. Try searching through the driver archives at ATI and trying an older version.
