Driver problem for Western Digital SATA2 80GB HDisk.

Hai , I have faced a variety problem from my friends computer. His system is P4 3.0Ghz,
and 80GB SATA2 Western Digital Hard disk. When I am trying to install Red Hat Enterprise
Linux Ver.3, the Linix was unable to detect that WD harddisk. Showing some message that linux was not detected any Harddisk installed to this computer, and also offering to install drivers
I tried to locate drivers in Western Digital Website, but there is no use.
Please help me to solve my friend's problem.

Re: Driver problem for Western Digital SATA2 80GB HDisk.

AH! Assuming we're talking about a system with integrated SATA ports on the motherboard, you've discovered the common error that people make when trying to install any OS that is older than the exsistance of SATA drives. I had the same problem myself. You have to go into the BIOS settings. Under the integrated peripherals you have to make sure that the Serial ATA setting is enabled and change the SATA mode from RAID to "as IDE."

Then after you've finished installing the OS you can change it back to "as RAID" if you want, but most operating systems need to have something they can recognize as an IDE drive before they will install. It's only after the installation that they will use the SATA drive as if it were perfectly natural.
