weird desktop thing goin on here...

hey all, Ive had this thing goin on with my desktop icons, seems like forever now, and finally want to do something about it. whenever I have a window or windows of any application open and then shut them down, or close the window, all my icons on the desktop change to the "generic" icon and then "rebuild" themselves back to thier original icons. it only takes like a second or two, but after having this happen for a couple years now, its gettin on my nerves. Anyone know why icons on the desktop would rebuild themselves? It almost seems like the desktop is refreshing itself after being hidden underneath a window.

basically that is what happens...

Sounds like you may need to clean up your computer to make it run faster; it sounds like your cpu and ram are loaded upa dn thats why your gettign that 1 or 2 second delay. There is alot of ways to go about this...

but you may also want to try to speed up the visuals on your comptuer by turning off some the the fancy visual stuff with windows xp.
Right click My computer -> properties. goto the advance tab, and click the "settings button" under performance.
The defualt is to have the visual effects tab open. YOu cna turn off things manually that you dont think u care about. Or you can click the button beside "Adjust for the best performance", and it will pretty mucht urn off everythign.

This can make a big difference in speed of windows.

Re: weird desktop thing goin on here...

thanks, but I have pretty much done that a couple years ago to get rid of the "Fisher Price" look of XP. the only thing I have checked in that window is smooth fonts and show window contents while dragging. Is there any gain in performance in checking 'system cache' instead of 'programs' in processor scheduling?
