Re: What antivirus software is everyone using?
pc-cillin has it all dude... theres no reason to have multiple programs when 1 does the same thing...
+++ you have to watch having more then 1 anti-virus, laggy im sure allready knows this, but for the rest of you, you shouldnt run more then 1 anti-virus type of program, they just butt heads and render both practically useless

Re: What antivirus software is everyone using?
Thee's right. You only want one AVS on your computer. One of the biggest problems I've seen (besides double scanning a file and locking each out of the other) is when one actually is able to quarantine a file, the other program freaks out about the quarantined file and how it can't gain access to it in order to quarantine the file itself.
I would also agree about the uselessness of having more than one program. Unless you really want the best of the best and need to go all out. I used to run PC-Cillin and had good luck with it, but it ate up resources like a beast (an average of about 250MB in RAM when idle, which was on a 64 bit system mind you). And running Kaspersky Internet Security, I don't believe I've seen it get much above 15MB idle.

Re: What antivirus software is everyone using?
Regarding the Sophos Anti-Virus.. As I said, the anti-virus which I use is specifically created to not make problems with the anti-virus software which is already installed. Look at this link. Sophos call it: Sophos Threat Detection Test. And the Anti-rootkit is also harmless to use if one already have anti-virus in the system.
Regarding anti-spyware. I don't agree that there is useless to run several programs since different anti-spyware can find different harmful threats. But sure.. if your anti-spyware is so good that it can detect everything in total which all these programs can find, then I'm more than impressed!
I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to virus and spyware and want the best protection that is available.

Re: What antivirus software is everyone using?
I use Avira av free nowadays, as it is more effective catching bad stuff than my previous favourite Avast.

Re: What antivirus software is everyone using?
It seems like a good anti-virus program and from what I can see from the website, it is completely free. Hmm.. No restrictions anywhere?
Anyway, should I recommend Avira AntiVirus to people who can't afford a commercial one?
Here in Sweden, the company Telia has a solution which is called: Telia SäkerSurf and with this comes F-Secure integrated in the package which I currently use, and as I have mentioned before in this thread: I use other programs too since the F-Secure definitely is not able to remove all the bad stuff which I get.

Re: What antivirus software is everyone using?
Hi! (Hej!)
No restrictions as far as I know.
I have tried both AVG antivirus, and Avast. AVG is good, but tends to trigger false alarms now and then. Their free antispyware is great though.
Avast, is nice too. But Avira have an even smaller footprint ( not that Avast is a resource hog in any way) and Avira, is slightly better as said at catching nasties.
You could team up Avira with Comodo, BOClean, and the Comodo firewall free. And you should have a pretty solid defence, without seeing the cpu / RAM resourses go up in smoke.

Re: What antivirus software is everyone using?
Concerning whether the programs is heavy on my system or not is not important, because they are running at night when I'm a sleep.
Just for the fun of it I tried to run World of Warcraft at the same time the agents were cleaning my system, and the result is that I get about a maximum of 3fps. So, no WoW for me after 02.00am.
I knew about Comodo but I've never tested it. Interesting.

Re: What antivirus software is everyone using?
Lol, Vi måste väl tänka på att vi är i språklig minoritet här. Och jag misstänker, att varken du och jag skulle gilla att se 2 Kinesiska snubbar snacka dator grejor t.ex. på sitt språk i ett forum he,he,he!
Anyway, Comodo have one of the best firewalls you can find. Even if you compair it to the pay for ones.
The BoClean, is a kind of hybrid between an antivirus and anti spy, lurking in the background. But attacks as soon as anything suspicious tries to settle down on the hdd.
The nice thing about Comodo, is that they have great support, and updates their firewall etc quite often.
Just be prepeired to, that their firewall will ask a lot of questions in the beginning.

sweet. i think ill try those. At work we have to recommend trend micro antivirus and webroot spysweeper antispyware. are those even a very good combination? For 64 bit machines we have to use kapersky, which i know is good, but we never actually sell them much.

Spysweeper is one of the very best antspy's. It always comes out on top in antispyware tests.
As for Trend Micro av, I belive both Avira and Avast are better. But T.M. av and Spysweeper should make a pretty good combo. Especially if you also add Spybot SD. Or / and AVG antispy.
