Daemon Tools is a virtual drive (and alcohol has one that is virtual also). Are you looking for something to make backups with? Or to mount images to a virtual drive? If you're looking to mount images on a virtual drive, I'd use Daemon Tools; it meets the requirements you specified. Haha.
EDIT: Looks like they're charging now for a "pro" version. You might be able to find some older versions on the net from when it was still free. Otherwise it appears there might be a standard version you can use.
