Boot Stalls Before BIOS

I've had my integrated ethernet disabled in the BIOS for a few months because I use only wireless, however I needed to enable it, so I went into the BIOS and enabled it. After it restarted, the computer stalls on the POST screen. There are no error messages: the last thing it says is "2048MB OK". I can't even get into the BIOS to change anything because it stalls before that point. That also means I can't flash the BIOS because it never gets the point where it could boot off a floppy.

Anyone have any idea what happened/how to fix it? So far I've tried removing all unnecessary hardware (like WiFi card) to see if there was some sort of conflict, but I'm not sure what else to do.

Re: Boot Stalls Before BIOS

Try pulling the mobo coin battery for a couple of minutes to reset bios.

Btw, maybe that battery starts to be too low on power? If you can get into bios after pulling the battery? Check the power.

Re: Boot Stalls Before BIOS

I tried pulling out the CMOS battery, but that didn't seem to work. But then I noticed a small button near it on the mobo that clears the CMOS (which I'm pretty sure is what pulling out the battery does), so I pushed that and it solved the problem. I'm note sure why that worked, but I'm glad it did :-)

Thanks!

Re: Boot Stalls Before BIOS

Very nice!

Sometimes on pretty rare occations, bioses get a hickup and get stuck sort of half way thru a setting. Probably that's what happend to your board. I have seen this happend to the bios selector between the onboard video chip and the graphics slot when mounting a video card a couple of times at the NV forum.

Neat idea by MSI, to use a reset button instead of having to fiddle with the CMos jumper (or battery).

You're welcome.

I like the button idea, those jumpers are just a pain in the rear with my large fingers :-p
